Project
The project “Authenticity identification and competitiveness enhancement of local traditional products of the agri-foodsector” (ΑΓΡΟ-ΤΑΥΤΟΤΗΤΑ/AGRO-IDENTITY) is implemented within the framework of the Cooperation Programme INTERREG V-A Greece-Cyprus 2014-2020 and it is co-funded by European Union (ERDF) and National funds of Greece and Cyprus.
The project goal is to enhance the competitiveness of the agri-food sector enterprises by documenting the authenticity of local-traditional products from the cross-border area of Greece-Cyprus and by establishing rural entrepreneurship support mechanisms for the promotion of local products in international and domestic markets.
The work packages of the project include:
- Development of an innovative model for the documentation of authenticity of local traditional products
- Mapping the authenticity characteristics of local products in the targeted area with the cooperation of SMEs and Research Organizations
- Operational support of SMEs and establishment of a framework for the award of Authenticity Certificates to local traditional products.
The project contributes decisively in the establishment of an authenticity identity and internationally recognized brand name for local quality products of North Aegean and Cyprus. Thus the project increases the competitiveness of SMEs that produce authentic local products in the cross-border area and their potential to expand in national and international markets.
Towards this direction a special Unit for the Agri-Entrepreneurship support is established in North Aegean Region, with the support of the North Aegean Agri-Food Partnership. Using the tools of the project, the Unit will be able to award Certificates of Authenticity to local traditional products. The certificate is issued upon request and after checking the relevant product and business compliance, with the specific requirements of the project’s authenticity criteria.
